Gloria Jeans responds to torrent of criticism over unlawful discrimination in its Launceston store in Tasmania

Gloria Jeans has belatedly responded via Facebook to the disgraceful performance of one of its staff members in its Launceston store who ordered a breastfeeding mother into the toilet.

This is unlawful under the Australian Sex Discrimination Act 1984 and reflects poorly on the international reputation of Gloria Jeans.

Warm and fuzzy comments by Gloria Jeans on Facebook are hardly a substitute for firm and decisive action against the employee and store owner.

This was simply unlawful conduct by the employee.

It was embarrassing to the lady who was ordered to take her baby into the toilet and it warrants instant dismissal.

Gloria Jeans must take a firm stand on this issue rather than issuing glib comments on Facebook.

If Gloria Jeans thinks this is just going to blow over, their media gurus should think again.

This is the response on Facebook by Gloria Jeans:

Gloria Jean's Coffees - www.facebook.com/gloriajeanscoffees
We're really concerned and disappointed to hear about this incident at our Launceston coffee house.
We are currently investigating how this happened with the owner of the coffee house and will certainly
be taking action to ensure it doesn't happen again. It is our overriding intention to always provide a
welcoming and safe environment for all our guests including breastfeeding mothers.

Not even an apology!  Gloria Jeans obviously doesn't understand how serious this is.  There is only one way to ensure that this "doesn't happen again" and that is to give the person concerned The Royal Order of the Boot!
