The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is warning people against booking a holiday through an unlicensed Gold Coast travel agent, reportedly trading as Coomera Cruise and Travel.
Fair Trading Minister Peter Lawlor says Jill Baker, director of Baker Taylor, is working in the industry without a licence.
"Ms Baker is known to currently go by the business name of Coomera Cruise and Travel," Lawlor says.
"Ms Baker previously had a travel business trading as Travelworld Upper Coomera at the Hub Shopping Centre, however the franchise arrangement with Travelworld no longer exists," he says.
According to Lawlor, the OFT cancelled Baker's licence in January because her membership with the Travel Compensation Fund - a pre-requisite for holding travel agent licence in Queensland - had been terminated.
"Ms Baker has been made well aware of the fact that she is now breaking the law by working without a licence," he says.
"The OFT is therefore investigating the actions of this agent and will pursue any breaches of legislation."
Under the Travel Agents Act 1988, people who work unlicensed as travel agents face fines of up to $100,000.
