Queensland Government sells its timber licence

The Queensland Government has sold a 99-year licence for its timber plantations for $603 million.

Treasurer Andrew Fraser says the amount being paid by Hancock Queensland Plantations for Forestry Plantations Queensland exceeds the government's original expectations.

The company has the right to grow and harvest the trees, but 90 per cent of the land remains in government ownership.

Mr Fraser says workers' jobs and entitlements have been secured, along with existing public access rights to the forests.
