to new research that warns such a high level of caffeine is brewing up
serious health concerns.
The research, commissioned by ratings agency Canstar Blue, found one
in six Australian women also drink six coffees or more a day.
The level of caffeine found in six coffees is said to be double the
safe daily recommended amount and may cause insomnia and high blood
pressure.
"These results are alarming from a health perspective," said David
Stelfox, an expert from Endeavour College of Natural Health. "This
level of caffeine consumption could result in drinkers developing
conditions including insomnia, restlessness, irritability, stomach
upset, high blood pressure, fast heart beat and muscle tremors."
South Australians are the biggest caffeine fiends, with 23 per cent of
those surveyed knocking back six coffees or more a day.
Only 11 per cent of Queenslanders drink the same amount.
Anything more than three coffees a day is too much, Mr Stelfox said.
