Middleton's engagement will hit the market tomorrow ahead of a
two-coin set for release after the wedding.
The Royal Australian Mint has minted the commemorative coins to
celebrate the royal milestone.
Queen Elizabeth officially approved the coin, which is one of the few
collectibles to be given the royal tick, Royal Australian Mint chief
executive Ross MacDiarmid said.
It was designed by the Queen's goldsmith and jeweller Stuart Devlin,
who has designed a number of Australia's circulating coin designs.
"The coin features some of Mr Devlin's trademark designs so as The
Queen's jeweller it makes it even more of a collectible and a special
addition to any royal collection," Mr MacDiarmid said.
It bears the couple's names on one side of the coin around the outside
of the coin with a rose design in the centre.
The Queen's image is on the flip side of the coin, which will be dated
2010, the year the pair were engaged.
The coin will be available on an unlimited basis, as a commemorative
50-cent coin in a card available at a cost of $8.95 from today.
A gold-plated two-set version of the coin contained in a wooden box
and limited to 10,000 copies can be ordered ahead of the minting of a
gold wedding coin, once released, at a cost of $175.
